Abstract

This paper seeks to investigate the long-term impact of public investment on domestic private investment in localities of Vietnam. There are many empirical studies on this topic in the world and in Vietnam. However, the results of the studies lead to conflict. This study uses panel data of 63 provinces/cities in Vietnam from 2000 to 2020 using FMOLS and DOLS methods. The results show that public investment positively promotes private investment on both estimation methods. In addition, economic growth also contributes to attracting private investment into the economy. The study also points out the suspicion of FDI crowding out private investment in Vietnam. The research confirm the important role of public investment and also proposes some policy implications for the Vietnamese government on public and private investment
