Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze the tariff impact of the EVFTA on Viet Nam pharmaceutical imports from the EU market, including four groups of effects: trade creation effect, trade diversion effect, tax revenue and welfare effects. To assess the effects of the tariff policy under the EVFTA on pharmaceutical imports, the authors use SMART model together with qualitative analysis. Accordingly, research result shows that the trade creation effect is expected to be greater than the trade diversion effect, the overall tariff revenue will decline while the social welfare is predicted to increase when the EVFTA comes into force. Based on the analysis, recommendations for the government, businesses and stakeholders are proposed.
