Nghiên cứu này tiến hành khảo sát 30 ngân hàng thương mại Việt Nam từ năm 2007-2019, thông qua dữ liệu bảng không cân bằng, với tổng quan sát là 353. Nghiên cứu kiểm tra mối quan hệ hai chiều giữa lợi nhuận và tăng trưởng cho vay của các ngân hàng thương mại Việt Nam. Bằng phương pháp ước lượng phương trình đồng thời với ước lượng 3SLS (three-stage least squares). Nghiên cứu đã chỉ ra rằng, mối quan hệ giữa lợi nhuận và tăng trưởng cho vay là cùng chiều nhau. Bên cạnh đó, kết quả còn chỉ ra rằng, có mối quan hệ phi tuyến ở tăng trưởng cho vay. Khuyến nghị các nhà quản lý ngân hàng nên thận trọng theo đuổi chiến lược tăng trưởng cho vay ồ ạt và các nhà hoạch định chính sách nên theo dõi kỹ thị trường ngân hàng Việt Nam khi cho vay tăng trưởng quá nhanh.
